Foliage - hunting for the perfect picture

Hiking boots on your feet and camera around your neck. September is the best time of the year to capture - through a digital eye - the many colours that nature gives us

One of the most photographed places ever, due to the spectacular sunset on the Brenta Dolomites, reflected in its waters. There are so many opportunities to picture: the lakes melting in late spring, and the breathtaking dawns and sunsets in autumn. The best time? Early in the morning to capture the incredible silhouette of the Dolomites, or with the sun at your back, from mid-afternoon to sunset

Lago Nero
Alta Val Nambrone

P = Tur | T 30min | AP 2.120mt | AA 2.220mt

Access: by car, from the state road that climbs from Pinzolo to Madonna di Campiglio, at the junction at the bend no. 4 shortly before S.Antonio di Mavignola, take the left towards "Laghi di Cornisello" (Rifugio / ristorante). For paved road (prudence, narrow track) after ca. Km.4, left the Rist on the right. Val Nambrone, crossing the next plain and crossing the bridge over the Sarca, will start climbing for about 9 km - with a beautiful panoramic view of Pinzolo - up to 2,120mt of the Cornisello Rifugio car park, road term. Parked the car, follow the signs for Lake Nero (2,200m) where it will arrive in about 30min. On the white road first and the trail for the last stretch, not before crossing an old ENEL cable lift - in disuse - dating back to the '60s.

Seasons: a great many photographic opportunities to bring home a wonderful "postcard" of the Brenta Dolomites, and not only from late spring to the winter until breathtaking sunrise.

Hours: Early in the morning for a Dolomite silhouette, or with sunshine from mid-afternoon to sunset to capture the Dolomites in all their splendor.

Technique: polarizer to highlight the probable clouds present, possible ND filters graded for various exposure compensation.

Iron is a medieval village that was completely depopulated by the plague of 1630

Near Ragoli lies a small medieval village perfectly preserved, which for years has been completely abandoned. It is Irony, the ghost village from the time of the plague of 1630, that told by Manzoni in the Promessi Sposi. The small church, isolated from the village and placed on a panoramic hillside, is also of medieval origin: traces of Gothic frescos have been found beneath the plaster. It is dedicated to Saint James and was entrusted to Bishop Madruzzo by the bishop of Tione Stefani, who here had a residence, whose coat of arms is the heron.

The village, which is repopulated in summer, still preserves the characteristic of medieval Alpine agglomeration in the structure of its houses and still retains the ancient well that used to serve the whole small community. Numerous events are organized here, which take place mainly in the summer months and are aimed at promoting local traditions and popular culture. The hamlet is also studied for architectural restoration respecting its history.

Yet ANOTHER Perfect Stay
" With temps over 100 for weeks in central Italy, we couldnt wait to get back to the cool of the Dolomites. This was another perfect trip, and as usual Hotel Gianna was a big part of that. The location is perfect, absolutely silent and peaceful. The spa and wellness center are stylish and harmonious, and the restaurant is a cozy option with a varied menu when we dont feel like leaving the hotel (there are plenty of good restaurants in walking distance....but after a day of hiking, biking and massages you dont always have the energy!) But what really makes the difference every time is the Armani family- Rudi, Gianna, Cristian, Federico and Claudia make you feel part of the family, and go out of their way to help with everything, making for a *very* relaxing vacation. Hospitality, style and value all in one place. Thank you friends, we'll be back!! "
